2nd Grade December Play

It is the tradition at Fork Shoals that the 2nd graders perform a huge play at the December PTA program. This year's play is called, "The Share Bears". The play has several speaking parts and every child that is participating gets to dress in some type of costume. This is where I need the parents of 2nd graders' help. I need to know if your 2nd grader will be participating in the program. I, of course, want ALL of the 2nd graders to participate (both Paxton's and Webb's classes). Your student received a bright lime green info paper in the Monday, November 2nd folders. Please check the appropriate information and return to me by this Friday, November 6th. Thank you!

Chorus Shirts

Attention Chorus Parents!!! Please check your email from me about Chorus Shirts or check my Chorus page on this Blog site. The students will also be bringing home a bright blue paper with information. Thank you!

Recorders!!!

Hello everyone! If you have a student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade and they do NOT have a recorder, now is the time to order one. The cost of the recorders are $6 each. I will be collecting money up until Friday, November 20th. I will get the total number we need, then order. The 3rd graders will begin their unit right when we get back from the Winter Break in January.

Off and Running!

Hi everyone! We sure are off to a great start in music this year!

  • K5 is learning about objects that have a steady beat and which ones don't. This week we'll be "Going to the Farm" and follow the ducks (rhythm sticks)!
  • My 1st graders are showing the many ways they can use body percussion, move their bodies, and even are playing the steady beat with instruments.
  • 2nd Grade is taking the steady beat and grouping them together in measures. We call this "Meter".
  • The 3rd Grade has stepped up their game and is learning to use a meter sign or also called, meter signature. They are reviewing simple rhythms by reading, writing, and even playing these rhythms.
  • 4th graders are leaning about "Triplets". No, not a set of 3 siblings - but three sounds to a beat. They are reading these tough rhythms and playing them on the tubanos.
  • After the Labor Day weekend, the 5th graders are defining "Patriotic" songs and listing ones they know. Did you know there was a South Carolina State Song? There is, (Carolina) and the 5th graders are learning how to sing it!
